Moe’s Tavern – OI fun facts – The non-alcoholic Flaming Moe’s “flaming” effect is created using dry ice and a special cup that has a bottom compartment to hold the ice, so that it won’t freeze your tongue as it bubbles with smoke. While the drink itself is just orange soda, the surprisingly fun and effective “flaming” presentation lasts up to five minutes – making the Flaming Moe possibly the first signature drink in any park that can compete with Butterbeer in terms of overall appeal.
On The Simpsons, there is a running joke that Duff, Duff Lite, and Duff Dry are all the same beer. At Universal Studios Florida, they are, in fact, different beers – all brewed by the Florida Beer Company, based out of Melbourne, Florida. With regards to taste, regular Duff is a lager, most comparable to Heineken, while Duff Lite is a light pilsner beer, similar to Miller Lite.
Finally, Duff Dry is a creamy stout, like Guinness. All three are exclusively sold at Universal Studios Florida, and in the fall, guests can find Dufftoberfest, a märzen-style beer that is typical of other Oktoberfest brews. Moe’s Tavern shares its seating area with the other restaurants in Fast Food Boulevard (even the pool table has cleverly been covered for use as an actual table, where large groups can enjoy a meal together while soaking up the atmosphere).

Is Duff Beer alcoholic?
Duff Beer – Fizz Beverage I was wandering around Lidl doing the weekly shop recently when out of the corner of my eye I spot something nostalgic. Something very nostalgic indeed. I was instantly drawn to the holy grail of cartoon beer much like how Homer Simpson is. Duff Beer! I would say I was shocked to see such a thing in Lidl, but realistically we’ve all seen far more bizzare items in the middle aisle.
According to Untapped it is brewed by Fizz Beverage in Germany. It is, of course, a lager and it comes in at 4.9% ABV. My expectations are low, but lets be honest, I didn’t buy this expecting the next innovation in the beer world. Pours an incredibly clear gold colour with a fairly small head. Has a basic malty sweet, lager aroma.
It tastes like your classic bog standard lager. There’s a little bit of sweetness mixed in with a little bit of bitterness. It’s easy drinking and went down a treat ice cold. A quick note on the can art: It pretty iconic and while not an exact replica of Duff cans from the Simpsons you know exactly what they are going for.
They’ve even gone for the Simpsons letter font! There isn’t really much for me to say about this other than it’s a lager and it tastes okay. In all honesty despite it being a gag beer, I’ve paid a lot more for beers I’ve liked a lot less! It really is your typical lager but I enjoy these fun little beers.
It’s also nice reminder to not take the craft beer world quite so seriously. Score: 4.5/10 Thanks for reading! Cheers! If you’d like a snappier version of my reviews check out my ! Additional Information:

What is Duff Beer in real life?
Duff in The Simpsons – Duff is ‘s beer of choice. It is a parody of stereotypical mass-market : cheap, poor-quality, and heavily marketed everywhere. The beer’s slogan is “Can’t Get Enough of That Wonderful Duff”, though there are others. In the season four episode, “”, parking lot signs at the Duff brewery have the slogans “It’s Always Time For Duff” and “Now Leaving Duff Country”.
In the first season episode, “”, Duff is described as “The beer that makes the days fly by”. Their spokesperson is, a parody of ‘s 1970s-era mascot, He is a muscular, bleach-blond, well-tanned man with whitened teeth who wears a blue leotard and cape, red Duff Beer ballcap, mirror sunglasses, and a utility belt full of cans of Duff Beer.
He speaks in a loud and overly-enthusiastic staccato voice (like a radio DJ or beer commercial pitchman) and does a lot of exaggerated physical movements like a male exotic dancer – like dancing in place, groin-thrusting, hip shaking, and rubbing his buttocks with a towel.
- There are apparently many identical Duffmen; however, like mall Santas they never appear at the same place at the same time (so as to not disillusion the kids).
- One retired Duffman in referred to himself as “Barry Duffman”, indicating that he had to assume the identity of Duffman as part of the job.
- Some of the actors who play him have actually died (presumably from alcohol-related causes); their demise was never acknowledged because the character of Duffman is unaging and immortal.
At public appearances he is often flanked by a random pair of beautiful, scantily-clad women who act as arm-candy, backup dancers, and assistants. While Duff Beer comes in several varieties, it is revealed on a Duff Brewery tour in “” that regular Duff, Duff Light, and are the same beer, although Homer and apparently remain oblivious to the fact.
- A tasting room contains Duff Dark beer and Duff Gummy Beers candy; it also contains several varieties that Barney stated they had not tried yet, including “Raspberry Duff”, “Lady Duff” and “Tartar Control Duff”.

- In “”, Duffman claims that Duff Stout is “the beer that made famous”.

In “”, Homer offers a “Canadian Duff”, which is labeled as “Le Duff Beer avec “, and has a picture of Duffman in a uniform saying his catch phrase in both English ( Oh Yeah! ) and French ( Mais Oui! ).
- In “”, Homer celebrates a recent minor stock windfall by ordering a bottle of Henry K.
- Duff’s Private Reserve, which is implied to be more costly and of better quality, and which is an apparent spoof of, as well as alluding to, the Dutch commissioner of the trading outpost, who first introduced beer to Japan.
In the season 21 episode “”, Duffman makes a giveaway of Duff advertising in Moe’s bar while “” by plays on the background, suggesting this might be the theme song for the beer brand or for the character. Fudd, a competitor to Duff, appears in the episodes “” and “”, the latter showing it being enjoyed by residents of, rival town to the Simpsons’ home of,
Is Duff Beer at Universal good?
‘Simpsons’ Duff Beer starts flowing at Universal Orlando’s Springfield When the folks at Universal Orlando decided to bring Homer Simpson’s favorite beverage, Duff Beer, to life in its new Springfield attraction, they knew just whom to call: the man who invented Butterbeer.
- Executive chef Steven Jayson led the team that created the signature drink of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal’s Islands of Adventure.
- I flew to Scotland and met J.K.
- Rowling, presented her with Butterbeer and got her to approve it,” he said.
- And now here we are almost three years later, and well over 7 million Butterbeers have been consumed, and it’s the talk of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter.” Going from Butterbeer to actual beer was a natural next step — especially a beer as iconic as Duff.
When Springfield opens in full this summer, the heretofore fictional brand will be everywhere. It’s already on tap at Moe’s Tavern, which opened a few weeks ago, and a taproom-style Duff Brewery will open soon. The gift shop is full of Duff-themed items, from mugs, buckets and apparel to cans of a Duff energy drink.
- Soon, there’ll be a giant statue of Duffman and topiaries of the Seven Duffs, characters in The Simpsons ‘ fictional Duff Gardens.
- Unofficially, Duff has existed for years, thanks to cheeky, copyright-skirting brewers around the world.
- But this is the first version sanctioned by The Simpsons,
- Reportedly brewed by Melbourne’s Florida Brewing Co.
— Universal honchos won’t say for sure — it’s available in three variations: Duff, Duff Lite and Duff Dry. (Sorry, fans, you’ll have to wait for Duff Blue, Duff Extra Cold and Henry K. Duff’s Private Reserve.) Park officials are calling it a “craft beer,” which is technically true, but don’t go in expecting bold, hoppy flavors or notes of vanilla or burnt caramel.
- Duff is light, malty and not particularly strong; reviewers have compared it to Yuengling, Keystone Light and Budweiser.
- Jayson said Universal experimented with about a dozen versions of Duff, even flying it out to California for a taste test with Simpsons creators Matt Groening and James L.
- Brooks and members of the show’s writing staff.
They also brought nonalcoholic drinks from the rest of the menu, including a cherry-flavored Buzz Cola and a green, punchlike Mount Swartzwelder’s Apple Drink (on the show, “Mount Swartzwelder” was named for legendary Simpsons writer John Swartzwelder).
- And then there’s the Flaming Moe, an orange concoction that smokes and bubbles with dry ice and tastes like Sunkist mixed with citrus Gatorade.
- On The Simpsons, Flaming Moes are purple, fiery and, it should go without saying, alcoholic.
- We made a joint decision that the Flaming Moe was going to be a nonalcoholic drink so that everyone could enjoy it,” said Universal Orlando senior vice president Ric Florell.
Even so, Duff is bound to be the beverage of choice in Springfield, just as Butterbeer is the top draw one park over. “It’s the No.1 thing that people want to do when they visit the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, is have a Butterbeer,” Jayson said. : ‘Simpsons’ Duff Beer starts flowing at Universal Orlando’s Springfield
How much alcohol is in Duff Beer at Universal Studios?
1) Duff – Type: Lager Estimated ABV: 5 percent Cartoon: The Simpsons Brew Analysis: To determine the ABV of Duff, I thought that it might be helpful to look at actual Duff beer, which is a real thing at the Springfield USA areas of the Universal Studios theme parks.
- So I turned to David Butler, founder of Florida Beer Blog, who reviewed Duff when it arrived at Universal Studios, Florida.
- Butler tells me that the Duff he had at Universal Studios was “an American Pale Ale that was a bit on the hoppy side, with an ABV of 4.8 percent.” While that sounds good to me, it doesn’t really sound like the Duff we know and love from The Simpsons,
Its Wikipedia page describes it as “a parody of stereotypical mass-market American lager: cheap, poor-quality and heavily marketed everywhere.” The name “Duff” even has that one-syllable sound like “Bud,” and the mascot “Duffman” is a direct parody of the old school Budweiser mascot Bud Man. Given all of this, Wiley feels that it makes the most sense to give Duff the same ABV as Budweiser, or five percent.

Why is it called Duff beer?
At last Simpsons fans know how Duff beer became Duff beer. In his new book Springfield Confidential, longtime writer, producer and prior showrunner of The Simpsons Mike Reiss dispenses plenty of inside information on the longest-running network television show in America. Some of that intel includes the back stories on a number of character names — and product names. There’s been a myth circulating that Duff Beer, Homer Simpson’s favorite cold one, is named after Guns N’ Roses bassist Duff McKagan, based on McKagan’s own statements on the matter in his memoir It’s So Easy: And Other Lies, But as Reiss now notes, maybe we should be paying more attention to the title of that book to begin with, because the beer name doesn’t actually have anything to do with the musician after all. Instead, his claim is just a “cute fake story.” ” We needed a name for Homer’s favorite beer, and Jay Kogen came up with Duff,” Reiss writes in a piece excerpted by Entertainment Weekly, referencing fellow former Simpsons producer Kogen, “No, it was not named after Duff McKagan, bassist for Guns N’ Roses; we’d never heard of this guy. Have you? McKagan loves to claim we called him and asked to use his name: ‘I knew nothing about branding yourself then or the royalties off it. I just thought cool, they wanna use my name and boom, The Simpsons was born. Yeah, if I had a nickel for every time but it’s fine.'” Write to Raisa Bruner at [email protected],

‘Duff’ Beer Is Collector’s Item
SYDNEY, Australia (AP) _ Homer Simpson’s favorite beer, “Duff,″ has become a real-life collector’s item and is being offered for sale for up to $6,300 a case. Banned from sale in 1996 after the makers of “The Simpsons″ complained the name was stolen from their cartoon series, a beer called Duff has re-appeared for sale in Australia via classified advertisements. People who bought a case of the beer for about $15 in 1995 are now asking up to $6,300 for the same 24 cans.
According to ads in the latest edition of a national classified advertisements newspaper, a six-pack of Duff will set buyers back $750. In the three Duff ads, the cheapest price for a case was $2,800. “I’m after a quick sale so I priced a bit lower than some other people,″ advertiser Andrew Wade, who has two unopened cases, told the Sydney newspaper The Sun-Herald.
In 1996, a Federal Court judge ruled that the South Australian Brewing Co., a subsidiary of Lion Nathan Australia, had illegally tried to “exploit a strong association″ with “The Simpsons″ by making and selling Duff Beer. The case went to court after 20th Century Fox Film Corp., the series’ parent company, complained.
Duff Beer went on the Australian market in 1995. Homer Simpson began chugging a fictional brew by the same name in 1990 when the phenomenally popular show began. : ‘Duff’ Beer Is Collector’s Item

Who makes the real Duff Beer?
‘The Simpsons’ to Brew Actual, Officially Licensed Duff Beer To thwart copycat brewers, 21st Century Fox bringing “a premium lager” inspired by series to Chile and potentially everywhere Duff Beer, Homer Simpson’s beverage of choice on, might soon be heading to real life coolers.
- The long-running show’s media company, 21st Century Fox, has given the yellow thumbs up to brew an actual, officially licensed Duff Beer.
- However, as of now, the drink will only be available in Chile,, though a worldwide release is being considered.
- Although Homer has been sipping on Duff for over a quarter-century, 21st Century Fox only decided to go into the beer business after countless Duff counterfeits popped up throughout Europe, South America and Mexico.
While the company’s lawyers have been successful in swatting down brewers hoping to capitalize on ‘ worldwide recognition, because Duff doesn’t actually exist in real life, 21st Century Fox have had trouble protecting the fictional beer’s copyright in some countries, like Chile.
In that South American country, plenty of bootlegged Duff crept into the marketplace, and although 21st Century Fox filed an intellectual property complaint against those brewers, resulting in thousands of seized bottles, the demand for more Duff resulted in other bootleggers popping up in Colombia and Mexico.
Rather than continue battling the copycats, 21st Century Fox instead decided to brew their own officially licensed product. In 1996, an Australian company attempted to legally license the Duff brand but was rebuffed because a Simpsons -branded beer was viewed as “detrimental to children.” The outbreak of bootlegged Duff, however, has changed the company’s opinion on the matter.
Once you see enough piracy, you are faced with two choices,” Jeffrey Godsick, president of 21st Century Fox’s consumer products division, told the Wall Street Journal, “One is deciding to fight it, and the other is deciding to go out with it.” Unfortunately for American Simpsons fans, the only place to drink a Duff currently is at the show’s themed areas at Universal Studios parks in Orlando and Los Angeles.
However, given The Simpsons’ success, “I think there’s potential to have Duff everywhere in the world,” Godsick said, adding that the beer would be packaged without any mention of The Simpsons or a Homer Simpson endorsement. Sadly, that likely means won’t accompany the product into the real world.
On numerous occasions on The Simpsons, the series has joked about the questionable quality of the fictional Duff. In reality, however, British brewmaster Paul Farnsworth created a recipe for Duff that will make the beverage a “premium lager” with a “caramel aromatic.” In 2012, Guns N’ Roses’ Duff McKagan revealed that his name was the inspiration behind The Simpsons’ beer.
Producers even sought McKagan’s permission before using the name, and the bassist allowed it without asking for anything in return. “I knew nothing about branding yourself then or the royalties off it,” McKagan told, “I just thought cool, they wanna use my name and boom, The Simpsons was born.
Is Butterbeer at Universal Studios real beer?
What is Butterbeer? – Hot Butterbeer at Universal Orlando Resort Butterbeer is a fictitious drink created by Jo Rowling that is heavily referenced throughout all seven Harry Potter books (although there are some who believe it is based off real-world medieval precedents, such as the 16th-century buttered beer), with the writer describing it as “less-sickly butterscotch.” That is precisely the goal that Rowling and Universal’s corporate executive chef, Steven Jayson, went for when sitting down to create the libation for the theme-park version of Hogsmeade – and that’s precisely what they attained.
- In all of its various manifestations, Butterbeer is an interesting interplay between the flavors of cream soda and butterscotch, with a sweet, frothy topping usually firmly in place.
- It is not at all alcoholic, despite its name and despite the fact that the drink is (slightly) in the source material, but it is sweet – too much so for some, particularly in certain forms, though most find it absolutely delectable.
Be warned: you may discover that Butterbeer addiction is a very real phenomenon (or is that affliction?). “We found out very, very quickly when we opened that Butterbeer was definitely an overnight homerun,” Chef Steven Jayson told USA Today, “Hands down, that’s the one thing that we’ve created here at Universal Orlando that stands alone.”
What beer is in Harry Potter movie?
Butterbeer Ingredients – There are several different versions of Butterbeer available in different locations within the Harry Potter universe. For example, the Hog’s Head version of Butterbeer was considered to have a dusty flavor owing to how rarely it was served there.
It is speculated that The Hog’s Head served Butterbeer out of stored containers rather than freshly brewed. However, Madam Rosemerta’s Butterbeer at The Three Broomsticks is known to be a sweeter version of the drink. It was said to contain ingredients like Mallowsweet, Moondew, and Sugarshrub. The version available in the Leaky Cauldron, at Diagon Alley, is said to be made of sugar, butterscotch, and water.
The Butterbeer available in the real world, which is outside the Harry Potter Universe where its readers exist, is usually made of Butterscotch or a similar variant. Butterbeer is offered in several theme parks of the Harry Potter franchise and is usually non-alcoholic for kids who constitute a major demographic of Harry Potter fans.
The frozen butterbeer available at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter is a bottled drink that is said to consist of ingredients like cream soda, butterscotch syrup, soda water, whipped cream, and caramel syrup. A pinch of salt is sometimes also added according to taste. The Butterbeer offered at Universal Studios consists of vanilla ice cream, vanilla extract, and heavy cream or heavy whipping cream topping.
Several other variants of non-alcoholic Butterbeer include the Making of Harry Potter Exhibition where they serve both Butterbeer and Butterbeer ice cream, Yuengling’s Butterbeer ice cream which is a mixture of the buttercream and butterscotch ice cream flavor twisted into a swirl.
