Ask Bob Brewer: How much should a keg of Anchor beer weigh? – Posted by at 10:15 pm | Category: Ask Bob Brewer Jessica (via email): How much should a keg of Anchor beer weigh? Bob: I’ve been asked this question a lot over the years, Jessica – usually when a bar wants to reconcile their daily receipts with the volume of beer used. The only real way to determine how much beer is left in a keg is to weigh it, but you have to know how much it weighs to begin with.
A full keg of Anchor beer should weigh about 140 lb. The empty weighs about 30 lb., but can vary a bit depending on the manufacturer (we’ve had several), and the beer itself weighs 110 lb. For all practical purposes beer weighs the same as water, which is 8.34 lb. per gallon or 2.2 lb. per liter. A 50-liter keg X 2.2 lb.
= 110 lb. If you want to be picky you can figure in the ABV of the beer and subtract the difference in weight because ethanol weighs 6.584 lb. per gallon. But the difference is slight, something like 1.075 lb. in a 50-liter keg of 5% ABV beer, and is somewhat taken up by the fact that beer contains heaver compounds.

Sixth barrel – A sixth barrel keg contains approximately 5.2 gallons, and is becoming the choice for many establishments and breweries that wish to use kegs smaller than a half barrel, The sixth barrel kegs are nominally larger in size and volume compared to the Cornelius keg.
- They are normally fitted with a standard US Type D Sanke coupler on a single downspout; whereas, Corny kegs are normally fitted with a flip-hatch, and a dual connector pin-lock or ball-lock top.
- Although the sixth barrel torpedo keg is approximately the same height as the standard half barrel, the smaller foot print of the sixth barrel allows retailers have a greater variety of beer in a small space.
This size keg is quickly replacing the quarter barrel size which has the same foot print as a half barrel keg, but is only half as tall. Other than smaller circumference, sixth barrel kegs are very similar to their full-sized counterparts in construction.
How much does a full 500ml bottle weigh?
Supplier of 500ml PET bottles – Frapak Packaging has created many different 500ml PET bottles. The 500ml PET bottle is made in different neck sizes; 24-410, 24-415, 28-410 and 28ROPP. Besides these standards we also created a neck size especially for the 500ml PET bottle in combination with our triggers, called a 28mm lock neck.
The weight of our 500ml PET bottles varies from 32gram to 34 gram. If a project requires other specifications, we can always discuss the feasibility of this with our Research and Development team. A popular 500ml PET bottle is the Boston Round, this is one of the most commonly used PET bottles in the market.
We created the 500ml PET bottle in three different shapes: Round, Oval and Square. With these shapes we can provide a wide range of 500ml bottles.

Why is 1 L of water 1kg?
$\begingroup$ It is not a coincidence. As the Wikipedia article on the Litre says: One litre of water has a mass of almost exactly one kilogram when measured at its maximal density, which occurs at about 4 °C. Similarly: one millilitre (1 mL) of water has a mass of about 1 g; 1,000 litres of water has a mass of about 1,000 kg (1 tonne). Therefore 1 cubic meter volume is the same as 1000 cubic decimeter or 1000 liters and that is why 1000 liters of water weighs $1000\ \mathrm $ or 1 ton. Similarly, $1\ \mathrm $ is the same as $1\ \mathrm $ and weighs $1\ \mathrm g$ of water. It is not a mere coincidence but a simple equivalence measurement between the Metric system and the SI system of measurements.

$\begingroup$ Welcome to stack exchange. Unfortunately, your math does not answer the question “why this relationship hold”. $\endgroup$ Dec 18, 2019 at 20:52 $\begingroup$ “It is not a mere coincidence but a simple equivalence measurement between the Metric system and the SI system of measurements.” Isn’t the equivalence between metric and SI more due to the fact that SI is directly based off metric units? $\endgroup$ Mar 19, 2020 at 14:51
