Red Dead Online has added the first new role since they were introduced to the game: the Moonshiner, a profession based around brewing and distributing barrels of elicit hooch. We’ll show you how to become a moonshiner and what you can expect from it right here.

Pay five gold bars in the “Progress” section of the main menu (not including the Trader starting fee) Complete a Trader Selling Delivery Reach Trader Rank 5
Once you complete any of these conditions, you’ll get a letter sent both to any delivery offices and to your camp lockbox, with Cripps offering to introduce you to famed bootlegger Maggie Fike. This will open up a mission in Emerald Ranch (you should be able to see it on the map marked by a yellow icon), in which you can go to an old saloon and meet Fike personally in a cutscene.
She’ll explain how she wants to start up her bootlegging business again, and wants you to help provided you pay an up-front investment. Like with being a trader, you’ll have an opportunity to pay either in the cinematic, or you can do so later if you have the money. To do this, go into the online menu (left on the D-Pad) and go down to “Camp and Properties”.
There’ll be a second option for where you want to put a Moonshine Shack, though it makes it clear it’ll charge you for the privilege. Once you do buy it, the Moonshiner role will open up and you’ll be able to start playing it for yourself.

This is technically the most expensive Role in the game, as you have to first purchase the Trader Role to be able to unlock it. Once you become a trader, you have to complete one of three things:
Reach Trader rank 5 Complete a delivery Pay 5 gold bars in the progress section of the main menu
Completing a delivery is the easiest route to take, just do a local one and there won’t even be other players bothering you. Once you’ve passed one of the above milestones you’ll receive a letter telling you about an opportunity on Emerald Ranch. Go to the new icon there and initiate a cutscene.

In order to become a Moonshiner, players will first have to unlock the Trader role. - The best one, in our opinion, is Tall Trees, but each has its own advantages to consider.
- Tall Trees is one of the easiest shacks to make your moonshine deliveries from thanks to the terrain being mostly flat and smooth.
- It isn’t far from Blackwater, which you will need to visit often for mail and deliveries, and the Manzanita post fast travel location is very convenient.

Each option will cost you 25 gold bars, so it is very important you pick the right location. You can choose to build your shack in one of five regions: Tall Trees, Heartlands, Hennigan’s Stead, Grizzlies, or Bayou Nwa.
The Heartlands is another find choice, close to Emerland Station, but you will be delivering your booze all the way to Annesburg and Van Horn. Hennigan’s Stead is the farthest from civilization of all the shacks. Only pick this one if you really want to be out of the way. 
Finally you have Bayou Nwa, which is not a bad pick for runner up to Tall Trees if you don’t mind the swampy location. It is just a stone’s throw away from St. Denis and Rhodes so deliveries and errands to the city are a breeze. You do have to keep an eye out for predators, such as gators, but if you keep your wits about you there’s nothing too bad to worry about.
