What temperature should moonshine head be?
How to Monitor Temperature – The temperature of your still varies in different spots. There are three key places on your still where you should monitor the temperature – the pot boiler, the top of the column, and the condenser coil. The temperature inside the pot boiler will tell you about the boiling liquid in the mash.
Eep it increasing, maintaining a range of 175 – 195 degrees Fahrenheit for as long as possible. Turn off the heat when it reaches 212 degrees Fahrenheit. The temperature at the top of the column will tell you about your alcohol vapor as it begins to condense. Monitor this temperature, watching for an excess of 180 degrees Fahrenheit.
If it becomes overheated, turn down your heat. It is especially important to use a built-in thermometer at the top of the column in a large column still Keep an eye on the touch-temperature of your condenser coil. The coil should be kept cool to the touch, with cold running water or ice packs. If it reaches room temperature, decrease the heat on your still and pack more ice on the coil.
What proof should real moonshine be?
What Proof is Moonshine? – Without going into specific details just yet, proof moonshine is a pretty strong concoction. It has high alcohol content, a glass or two is more than what you probably need. On average, a proof moonshine could range somewhere between 100 to 150 proof.
What temp does alcohol boil off?
Its molecules will evaporate not just when alcohol reaches its boiling point, a chilly 173 degrees Fahrenheit compared to water’s 212 degree Fahrenheit boiling point, but any time it is exposed to the air. Despite its ability to dissipate, ‘it’s impossible to cook out all of the alcohol,’ says McGee.
Can you boil 70% alcohol?
Yes, but the Isopropyl will evaporate out before all the water does. You shouldn’t do it with flame or a gas stove as alcohol is flammable, nor should high heat settings should be used. Yes, you ‘can’ do this. though there are good safety reasons NOT to do it (eg alcohol and its vapor are highly flammable).
Is the boiling point of alcohol 70 degree Celsius?
The boiling point of ethanol or grain alcohol (C 2 H 5 OH) at atmospheric pressure (14.7 psia, 1 bar absolute) is 173.1 F (78.37 C).

- A 12-year-old Spartanburg preteen is recovering from burns on 40 percent of his body.
- Fire officials tell 7News they believe the child was attempting to perform a dangerous challenge that’s picking up steam on social media.
- The Spartanburg Fire Marshal says the “rubbing alcohol challenge” is when someone puts rubbing alcohol on their body and sets themselves on fire.
Brad Hall, Spartanburg Fire Marshal, tells 7News fire investigators were stumped by what they found at a home on La Salle Court, where they responded to a 12-year-old on fire Tuesday. Hall says the fire was quick and there was no damage to the structure, but investigators found some unusual items in the bathroom, where the fire originated.
- There’s evidence of rubbing alcohol on the counter,” he said.
- We found a lighter.” Hall says all signs lead him to believe the preteen was trying a new dangerous social media challenge, known as the “rubbing alcohol challenge”.
- As I understand it’s where you put rubbing alcohol on your body and set it on fire.
This is a very, very poor decision,” Hall told 7News. Rubbing alcohol is very flammable and when lit of fire can reach up to 1,000 degrees. Almost 7 times the temperate at which human skin burns. “Like 130 degrees, your skin begins to burn.” Hall said. The Spartanburg preteen’s burns cover nearly 40 percent of his body.
- You’ll never be truly normal again, once you are burned like that,” said Hall.
- The preteen is currently being treated at the Joseph M.
- Still Burn Center in Augusta, Georgia.
- A spokesperson for the center tells 7News this is not the first case of this challenge they’ve treated.
- An alarming reality that Hall wants parents and kids to understand.
“If it gets down into your muscle tissue and damage your muscles, you’re looking at years and years of surgeries.” Hall said.
- While the current condition of the child is unknown, neighbors tell 7News they are sending blessings his way.
- “I’ll be praying for him, because prayer never hurt anybody,” said neighbor Virginia.
- Hall says people also use hand sanitizer, which is just as flammable and dangerous.

What temperature are moonshine tails?
Finally, at around 205°F, the tails condense out. Like the heads, these contain some unpalatable flavors, so they’re usually removed from the rest of the distillate. Because water boils at 212°F, the tails are mostly water and will dilute the rest of the spirit if not cut properly.
